new rear deck for a row house in NE DC

Transformation of the rear of a row house in the NoMa/Gallaudet neighborhood of NE Washington DC. Originally, a small uncovered deck off the kitchen with just enough room for a gas grill, and an intrusive set of stairs down to a parking pad. The new deck is an outdoor living/dining room, spanning the full width of the house and covered by a pergola with semi-transparent corrugated material to let light - but not rain - through. The straight stair was replaced with a spiral, freeing up precious space in the parking area. Ipe wood decking and steel rope railing give the space a modern feel. A roll-up door secures the property from the alley.
