bringing a 1920s bungalow into the 21st century

A well-preserved bungalow in the Rosemont neighborhood of Alexandria, VA, with lots of charming original details, but an outdated layout: four bedrooms and one bath on the 2nd floor, a large backyard accessible through an unfinished walk-out basement. This project, split into four phases, is intended to reprogram much of the interior space to make the house significantly more livable while maintaining its original footprint - and charm. Phase 1: finishing the basement into a comfortable family room, a modern laundry center, a guest bedroom and full bath, and a set of french doors leading to a freshly hardscaped back yard. Phase 2: new kitchen. Phase 3: combining two of the small bedrooms into a master suite with a huge walk-in closet and an all new bathroom, and renovating the very hard-working existing bathroom. Phase 4: renovating the existing back porch and patio.
